Brasilia, a modern city built around the car in the 1950s, is seen as a symbol of the Brazilian national road policy. This paper describes a recent Federal District Transport Programme, called "Peace within Traffic". This programme achieved a reduction of over 40 % in fatal traffic accidents, and mobilized a great walk for peace within traffic, comprising about 30,000 participants. Today, most of the drivers respect speed limits as well as the pedestrians. (A) The French title of the paper is: "La paix dans la circulation : une révolution dans les comportements à Brasilia".
