Samenvatting

The characteristics of pedestrian accidents in Metropolitan Melbourne were studied for 1960 and 1981 to provide a view of the changes in accidents brought about by changes in the road system and traffic control environment. Pedestrian accidents have become more severe over time. There were changes in the peak weekday for pedestrian accidents and the duration of the peak period. The predominant type of pedestrian accident has changed from hit crossing the road on the first half of the roadway, to hit on the second half of the roadway.
