This study of the 1981 pedestrian accidents in metro- Melbourne introduces the hierarchy of the roads involved as well as the usual characteristics of age, sex, time of day. The use of road class enables a better understanding of the where of accidents. This referenced by the age of the pedestrian shows the accidents to the youngest pedestrians predominate on local streets. 47% of the pedestrians involved in local streets are 0- 8 years old. Adults predominate in the accidents on arterials. Night time accidents have a main peak for the 18- 17 year old group on primary arterials.
