Samenvatting
Pedestrian accidents from an important part of the road accident problem in NZ as nearly 16% of fatalities and 7.5% of all reported injuries from road accidents are pedestrians. The data has been analysed separately for four age groups: pre- school children (0- 4 years), school children (5- 14 years), adults (15- 59 years) and elderly (60+years). School children have the highest number of injuries per head of population while the elderly have the highest number of fatalities per head. The circumstances in which accidents occur and the factors that contribute to accidents vary considerably with casualty age.
