Samenvatting

This paper describes a study of pedestrian manoeuvres and behaviour at signal controlled intersections, which were chosen to represent a range of conditions including the provision of refuges and/or a pedestrian stage. Data were collected directly on street and also by abstraction from video recordings. The interdependence between pedestrians behaviour and vehicular traffic is presented in the form of histograms coordinated with signal timings. The effect of layout and the provision of pedestrian facilities on pedestrian exposure and delay is evaluated and assessed using simulation for varying vehicle flow and turning movements over a range of cycle times and associated green periods.
