Pedestrian behaviour patterns and experiences in a shopping centre combining two design alternatives for traffic segregation.

Pedestrian malls represent an accepted solution to the problem of pedestrian safety. However, the implications of this design for other aspects of behaviour are often not considered. In order to test these implications for small urban centres, a case study of a central shopping district was undertaken, and the results of this study are discussed.
