The conceptual aspects of planning for pedestrians are delineated and the nature and extent of pedestrian circulation systems in Montreal, Toronto and Calgary are documented. Conceptual aspects are discussed within the planning framework and the Canadian context. Developments in these Canadian cities are discussed and system characteristics, configurations, concepts and linkages are described.
