Samenvatting

Discussed are the different practices throughout New Zealand both in the type of pedestrian markings used at signal controlled intersections and the phasing of the signals. One of the claimed advantages of zebra markings - that they lead to fewer rear end collisions - was not proven. In fact those intersections with parallel markings had fewer rear end collisions but once again without traffic volume data this cannot be accepted as a final conclusion.
