Samenvatting

Surveys have been carried out at the sites of several Pelican crossings in order to assess the extent and nature of pedestrian-vehicle conflict. Whilst the concept of the Pelican crossings has some clear advantages, experience indicates, and the results confirm, that in practice they do not always operate as they were intended to. A number of suggestions are made, ranging from increasing the pedestrian right of way time to improving the publicity about these crossings.
