Samenvatting

An investigation was made into the behaviour of pedestrians trying to cross a street through the traffic flows. An automatic camera was used at a particular point. Statistical methods were utilized to evaluate the results about the relation between gap acceptance and various factors such as time waited, volume of traffic, number of persons waiting, walking speed and of oncoming traffic. Main conclusions were: difference between male and female behaviour: minimum acceptable gap in a single stream of traffic was 3 seconds or 75 feet.
