Samenvatting

Conventional maps using the concept of Geographic Information System (GIS) have mainly been plan views or bird eye views of two-dimensional maps, wherein the altitude is usually represented by color gradations. This method of altitude representation is quite simple, but in some cases, it is difficult to obtain three-dimensional features intuitively because of its two-dimensional nature. With the rapid advance of the performance of personal computers, high speed and high quality computer graphics can now be used quite easily. Thus, using this 3DCG, one can draw three-dimensional maps that represent realistic terrain features. In this paper, the authors describe a three-dimensional route guidance system for the pedestrian navigation named 'e-Walk Map' using Java and Java3D.
