Samenvatting

Satisfying any of the needs of pedestrians is going to be a whole lot more complicated than people have chosen to believe. Safety cannot be significantly improved for pedestrians without effecting major changes in the urban transportation system. Such major changes can also be made responsive to the other needs of pedestrians, as well as needs of users of other transportation modes. This calls for a complete reorganization of the urban scene, of course, but it is long overdue.
