Samenvatting

A study is described which investigated the layouts of private housing estates which permit the separation of pedestrians from vehicles in a way acceptable to planning authorities, house builders and residents. The principal criteria of acceptability were safety, convenience, and the satisfaction of house buyers with the general environmental design of the estate. Previous relevant research had been confined to local authority estates and mainly to the "Radburn" type of separation.
