Samenvatting

The subject of this paper is the development of a new method of pedestrian safety auditing. The aim of this research is to develop an auditing method that may be utilized by either communities or specialist consultants with an interest in analysing pedestrian corridors. This method has been developed in response to shortfalls identified in existing methods. Research was conducted at the University of Queensland over the course of five months, with the assistance of the staff of the Geographical Sciences and Planning and 'PedBikeTrans', a professional research and advocacy group working for better pedestrian and cyclist planning. The method under development has been subjected to field- testing exercises and professional criticism. As a result of feedback received the method will undergo a process of continual improvement to improve usability and relevance to the pedestrian planning field.
