Samenvatting

People and animals are able to move relative to their environments. This is a well organized and effective form of motion which is controlled by perceiving and correcting any deviations from a desired path. A displacement changes the angular position of almost all points in the environment, but these changes show a regular pattern. Theoretical formulations are given in the literature which starts from this regularity. They are discussed and implications for the study of driving behaviour are given.
