An analysis is made of the perception of obstacles located at the entrance zone of road tunnels having regard to external conditions outside of one's control as well as internal conditions which one can control, such as artificial lighting and glare shields. The design of these glare shields which would no longer be simple anti-sun shields but genuine lighting fixtures are investigated.
