Perception of relative velocity.

An extensive literature review was undertaken and three studies conducted in an effort to determine the cues to the detection of relative velocity as well as the sensitivity of normal observers to these cues. In general, the results indicate that drivers appeared to make little use of relative velocity in the car-following, and therefore based their response upon the perceived headway.
