Samenvatting

From an analysis of accident circumstances the errors committed by the road user were classified on the basis of a three-stage human decision-making model of perception decision, and implementation. Results suggested that perceptual factors tended to be more important than visual defects, and that both tended to act in conjunction with other, normally environmental, causal factors rather than acting alone. Practical implications of these data in terms of possible preventive measures are discussed.
