Samenvatting
A brief description is given of two experiments carried out at the University of Queensland which involved judgements of size and distance made with peripheral vision. It is show that in certain situations two effects not independent of each other can occur, the first being an illusion of diminished size in the appearance of the peripheral object, the second being an illusion of an increase in the object's apparent distance. The possible consequence of these two illusions to road safety is discussed and several further experiments are suggested.
