Performance criteria : direct or indirect.

Samenvatting

Human factors studies often involve the use of simulation. Simulation permits the economical and easy manipulation of the primary variables in a given experimental situation. However, a simulation technique is not rewarding due to the increasingly apparent lack of a satisfactory measure of human fatigue. A theoretical study is reported of the nature of fatigue and a measure is developed which, hopefully, will fulfil the requirements for a satisfactory measure of fatigue. A review of literature on direct and indirect performance measures is presented and a conclusion is reached concerning likely successful and desirable indirect measures. One such measure is related to the distribution - as opposed to focalisation - of muscular response. A technique is described for performing such measurements and relating them to direct performance measures.
