Samenvatting

Current cars have been tested with head impactors according to the proposal of the EEVC working group 10 "Frontal Surfaces in the Event of Impact with a Vulnerable Road User". No car tested fulfilled the requirements given in the proposal fully. In general, the cars performed better in the adult headform tests than in the child headform tests. To meet the requirements following prerequisites are necessary: (1) the bonnet has to be soft enough to give a HIC value below 1000; and (2) there has to be a minimum distance to stiff substructure beneath the bonnet of about 80 mm, soft parts can be closer to it. Furthermore, the European test method is compared with the method proposed by NHTSA.
