Samenvatting

The work reported here represents the second phase of an ongoing study of elastomeric bearings. Phase I consisted of a state of the art review and the development of a first level design specification. In Phase II, tests and analyses were conducted on elastomeric bearings, and the results were then used to develop design provisions suitable for inclusion in the AASHTO Specifications. The provisions include both refinements of existing methods and a more sophisticated method based partly on existing theory and partly on the results of the tests performed for this project. The study consisted of tests and correlations with theory for monotonic compression, rotation, shear and buckling, and for fatigue in shear and compression. It also included a theoretical analysis of a bearing in a bridge subjected to low temperature.
