A high quality or "high modulus" bituminous mixture was used when rebuilding and strengthening the Napoli-Salerno motorway. This paper presents the analysis of the tests carried out on a 800 meter part of this full depth asphalt pavement. The object was to compare the performance of the mix used in the pavement with the performance of the same bituminous mixture made and tested in a laboratory. Furthermore, it was the aim to evaluate the adhesion between the different layers and to evaluate the effects of the edges between the rebuild pavement and the old shoulder on longitudinal strain.
