Samenvatting

A short history of the development of mechanical necks for anthropomorphic dummies is given, and the response envelopes recommended by Mertz and Patrick are reviewed. Commercial necks were tested and found to be incompatible with the performance requirements. Several experimental necks were tested and one- the GMRPolymeric Neck-demonstrated the feasibility of satisfying the requirements. However, additional effort are required to assure proper performance of this neck.
