Grade separation/interchanges in urban areas are usually restricted by the space available for construction. The structural system to be considered must have minimal adverse effects to existing traffic conditions. Therefore, the size of structural components shall be limited to its most practical dimension. With this in mind, ground anchor supported walls and large diameter bored piles are adapted as the substructure type for the traffic congested area of Metro Manila. A structural system combining bored piles, precast panels, and ground anchors integrated to the superstructure that were applied to three grade separation projects in Metro Manila are presented in this paper. In lieu of massive spread footing or pile cap on multiple bored piles, a single large diameter pile is chosen. The pile sizes adopted have diameters from 2.5 to 3.0 meters and length between 15 to 20 meters. (Author/publisher) For the covering entry of this conference, please see ITRD abstract no. E208431.
