Samenvatting

Following significant investment in conventional public transport, Perth is planning to pioneer a new system of Personal Public Transport (PPT). This will introduce a range of affordable on-demand multihire services provided by computer-scheduled vehicles (maxitaxis and taxibuses), together with a network of "electronic bus stops" providing passengers with real-time information on both scheduled and on-demand services. PPT will integrate seven technologies: vehicle location systems, automatic multihire vehicle despatching systems, mobile data radio systems, real-time passenger information and display systems, real-time booking systems, passenger billing systems and personal communication systems. A pilot project backed by local Transport, Land Development and Telecommunications Organizations is being planned, covering 40 sq km and including 300 taxis, buses, trains and multihire vehicles, with implementation planned for 1995.
