A miliimeter-wave automotive radar with +/- 10-degree azimuthal field of view has been developed for an adaptive cruise control. A novel technique is introduced for realizing the wide field of view. That is a phase-comparison monopulse technique with switched transmit beams. This technique makes it possible to widen the field of view with a simple structure. The detection performance of the automotive radar has been evaluated on an open field and a highway. It is confirmed that the automotive radar has the fairly good performance. (A*)
