Physiological reactions of drivers as indicators of road traffic demand. Paper presented at the 53rd Annual Meeting of the Highway Research Board HRB, Washington, D.C., January 1974.

Physiological measurements on test driver in real-world situations where vehicle and traffic variables were also recorded, are reported. A computer was used to develop and compare response profiles, which indicated significant co-variations between physiological variables and both vehicle variables and road characteristics. A theoretical model for some of the driver- vehicle- environment interactions is proposed.
