Samenvatting

The aim of the SAVE project is to diminish the severe consequences of road drivers impairments. The term "driver impairment" encompasses all the situations in which the driver's alertness is diminished, and therefore when the driving task cannot be maintained at an adequate level of performance. It is a consequence of stress, fatigue, alcohol abuse, medication, inattention, effects of various diseases. In this deliverable the results of a number of pilots are discussed. These pilots are directed at the design and evaluation of several different components of the SAVE system. First, in Chapter 3, the SAVE system and its components are discussed to enhance the readability of this deliverable. Then, in Chapter 4, an overview is given of the pilots that have been completed up to August 1998. The final chapter (Chapter 11) presents a general discussion of the results and some conclusions are drawn. (A)
