The value of heart rate as a measure of the stress incurred by policy patrol car drivers on motorways was assessed. Certain supplementary measures (Subjective Fatigue Scale, Subjective Stress Scale, and Kinetic Visual Acuity) were also use. Two crews of two police officers each were observed over a period of six eight-hour shifts of patrol duty.
