Immer mehr Entscheider in den Kommunen erkennen, dass es sich lohnt, Parkhaeuser nicht nur sicher und funktional auszustatten, sondern auch der aesthetischen Wirkung dieser Raeume Aufmerksamkeit zu widmen. In vielen Innenstaedten sind Parkhaeuser quasi zu modernen Stadttoren avanciert. Sie sind oft der erste Raum, den der Besucher nach seiner Ankunft zu Fuss durchquert. Aus Sicht des Stadtmarketings liegt es daher nahe, ihre graue Tristesse zu beenden und durch eine freundliche, offene Atmosphaere zu ersetzen. Grosse Bedeutung kommt dabei in diesen vom Tageslicht oft unterversorgten Bereichen der kuenstlichen Beleuchtung zu. Eine interessante Alternative zu konventionellen Lichtloesungen kann dabei ein Lichtroehren-System sein. Es schafft hohe Beleuchtungsstaerken bei gleichmaessiger Ausleuchtung und ist energieeffizient und wartungsfreundlich. In einem Parkhaus im niederlaendischen Haarlem wurde eine Probeinstallation mit dem "Light Pipe"-System von 3M untersucht. (A) ABSTRACT IN ENGLISH: In towns and cities nowadays, more and more decision-makers have come to realize that it pays off not only to design and operate parking garages so as to be safe and functional - but also to focus greater attention to the aesthetic effects of such urban spaces. In many inner-city areas, parking garages have even advanced to the point of becoming more or less the welcoming gate at which visitors receive their initial impressions upon arriving in a city. In many cases, indeed, they represent the first spaces that visitors cross by foot after their arrival. From the standpoint of urban marketing, it therefore makes good sense to end the gloominess that prevails in many parking garages, and to replace it by a friendlier, more open atmosphere. Artificial illumination subsequently plays a key role in these efforts taken to enhance parking garages: facilities that are often insufficiently provided with natural daylight. In such contexts, light-pipe systems can indeed represent interesting alternatives to conventional lighting solutions. Light-pipe systems provide high levels of illuminance, with uniformly distributed illumination. They are energy-efficient and easy to access for restorative and preventative maintenance.
