A forecast is made of the increase in traffic and traffic accidents from 1972 to 1979. In connection with the forecast four alternative aims for traffic safety work, primarily for the five year period 1973 to 1977 are given. Measures are suggested and a cost-benefit analysis of each of the four alternatives is presented. The suggested measures include legislation regarding seat belts, motorcycle and moped crash helmets, reflecting material for pedestians, traffic regulations, traffic supervision, driver training, educational advertising, revision of the driving licence and tax and insurance systems, first-aid education, vehicles, highways, and speed limits.
