This short paper considers 5 specific areas of interest: 1. optimization of airbag performance; 2. airbag applications in small cars both at the driver and passenger position; 3. prospects for passenger airbag systems in vehicles with two designated seating positions and in vehicles with bench seats; 4. prospects for reducing system costs; 5. FMVSS 208 injury criteria and its impact on airbags.
