In 2016, there were an estimated 7,277,000 police-reported motor vehicle crashes in the United States, resulting in 37,461 fatalities and 3,144,000 people injured. Among these crashes, less than 1 percent (34,439) were fatal crashes, close to 30 percent (2,177,000) were injury crashes, and almost 70 percent (5,065,000) were property-damage-only crashes.
