Samenvatting

This paper describes work undertaken in the PREDICT project. The main objectives of PREDICT (Pollution Reduction by Information and Control Techniques) are to develop schemes for reducing environmental pollution in Central Business Districts through use of traffic operation and control measures; and to appraise the potential of new technologies to improve air quality in a future road transport environment. PREDICT focuses on developing alternative control strategies based on road transport informatics (RTI), and evaluating their effects on pollution levels using a comprehensive modelling methodology. The project involves refinement and development of a PREDICT model suite, which is described in this paper. Strategies developed within PREDICT to minimize environmental pollution while maintaining traffic flow efficiency are also described, together with evaluations of these strategies using the model suite.
