Samenvatting

A population study of restrained child occupants under the age of 14 who were killed in car accidents has been conducted over the past 13 years. The restraint systems included rearward facing infant carriers, child seats, child harnesses and adult belts with or without booster cushions. The cases are discussed according to restraint type and crash configuration. Problems of misuse or malfunction are described. Guidelines for improved restraint design are presented.
