Samenvatting

The experiments have demonstrated that the pedestrian ITS system utilizing both Pseudolite and RF-ID tags is a practical application for providing mobility support to the visually impaired and people with walking disabilities. It should be noted, however, that these experiments have been conducted in a limited area within the NILIM premises, with the subjects participating in only a few walking experiments. These experiments do not replicate the true road conditions for people with disabilities walking alone. In the near future, we will conduct long-term experiments on real roads, replicating a normal walking environment for people with disabilities, and test the validity of the information offered. The following topics will be studied for practical application and dissemination of pedestrian ITS: (1) comparison of the different positioning systems, and study of which system works best in the respective environments; (2) digital map specifications; and (3) cost and benefit analysis.
