Samenvatting
As a result of the modernization program initiated at the New York City Department of Traffic in 1950, a computerized traffic signal control system is proposed for 7000 signalized intersections and 4500 system sensors. Design features incorporating lumination source, vandal-resistance, easy maintenance, visibility, and cost limitations of variable message signs must be used and coordinated with other traffic control devices. It includes also changeable message signs for controlling pedestrian traffic.
