The bureau of public roads publication, "Typical plans for retaining walls"(1), contains a new and simple approach to the relationships between footing dimensions and bearing pressures A series of graphs show how changes in toe and heel length affect the bearing pressures. These graphs, their construction, and their use are discussed.
