Samenvatting

In order to evaluate the rutting resistance performance of four differentasphalt materials, a full-scale Accelerated Loading Test (ALT) using a linear Accelerated Loading Facility (ALF) was implemented in Beijing in May,2009. Within the research work, strain response measurement in three directions (i.e. longitudinal, transverse and vertical strain) plays a reasonably important role on the rutting evaluation of asphalt pavement. As a result, Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) strain sensors in three directions jointed with a nylon junction is proposed here to measure vertical, longitudinal and transverse strain together at one testing point. A general introductionof the used ALF from Research Institute of Highway Ministry Transport wasgiven followed by a detailed description of three-directional FBG strain sensor at the beginning. Then the detailed instrumentation plan and accelerated loading program were described. At last, preliminary results about the full-scale ALT for different asphalt materials were given here. The results show that three-directional strain measurement can give a fine description for the dynamic response of asphalt pavement, according to the analysis of typical longitudinal, transverse and vertical strain time histories. Finally, rutting resistance performance of four asphalt materials in theALT was compared and analyzed.
