The Transport Department of the Polytechnic University of Madrid and the Consorcio de Transportes de Madrid, the Public Transport Authority in the Region of Madrid, have carried out research intended to analyse present and potential park-and-ride demand in the Madrid Metropolitan Area. This study is part of TransPrice, a project financed under the Transport area of the IV Framework Programme of the European Commission. One of its workpackages deals with research in travel behaviour when implementing pricing policies and it includes stated preference surveys in eight different European cities. This paper concentrates on Madrid experience presenting: (1) a description of Madrid mobility patterns affecting park-and-ride; (2) park-and-ride present situation in terms of supply and demand; (3) local analysis related to the SP exercise; and (4) conclusions related to park-and-ride potential to reduce car use in Madrid.
