The ERF Working Group on Road restraint Systems (RRS) has been quite involved in the topic of the EN 1317 and its implementation in the EU. This particular topic is obviously an issue in many EU countries and there is a clear demand for information from the road sector. Further to a request from its French Members, the ERF decided to organise an information seminar on Thursday 4th October, in the framework of the IDRRIM and INTEROUTE&VILLE 2012 congress, which took place in Lyon. This event was the perfect opportunity to provide representatives and decision makers of the French road sector about the practical implications of the implementation of the EN 1317 in France. The session, which was attended by more than 70 people, was divided in 4 main sections: * A brief presentation of the ERF and its activities in the field of RRS; * A presentation of the EN 1317; * A roundtable addressing different specific topics such as transitions, repairs, endings; and * A debate with the audience. The debate underlined the current uncertainties regarding the practical consequences of the implementation of the EN 1317 and the large demand from the authorities for clarification. Further to this successful event, the ERF and its French members will certainly organise other events on this topic. (Author/publisher)
