Samenvatting

Head injuries present a major problem to those responsible for the care of accident victims. Avoidable mortality and morbidity is common, and most of it derives from inappropriate management of patients who reach hospital alive. Policies should be formalized for the care of head- injured patients in accident and emergency departments, in primary surgical wards, in neurosurgical units and during ambulance journeys between these units.
