Samenvatting

While the mortality rates of motorized countries in recent years have tended to increase slowly or to remain at a fairly steady level, the figures for the developing countries are showing a marked rise in mortality. It is clear that one of the main steps that developing countries should take immediately is to improve their accident recording and thus obtain reliable epidemiological information as described in Chapter 1. This information is required in order to study trends of mortality and morbidity in each developing country it self. Developing must not come to mean the steady increase in road traffic fatalities and injuries that will take place unless vigorous preventive action is taken now.
