Samenvatting
Up till now, transport and traffic policy generally does not include fare experiments in order to reach objectives such as a shift in the modal split in favour of public transport or improvement of the cost/income ratio. Recent developments in public transport, such as the introduction of more competition and more room to differentiate transit fares, create more room to experiment with fares. This paper gives an insight into the type of fare measures that could be taken and what effects could result from these measures. The effects of fare experiments in a number of Dutch and foreign cases are described. Price elasticities in public transport are also dealt with. (A)
