The PHOEBUS Project aims to reduce Public Transport operators costs, to extend Vehicle Scheduling Control Systems (VSCS) beyond the urban areas and to enhance the service provided. The primer of lessons from the project, as available today, includes 3 important topics, two of them being very close to completion, the third one being at a sufficiently advanced stage of development. These are: a) Public Transport Data Base (PTDB); b) Passenger Information System (PIS); and c) Demand Responsive System (DRS). Brief details of each are provided. These include market requirements, operational efficiencies, and systems architecture.
