Priority for buses at signal-controlled junctions : some implications for signal timings.

Methods of giving priority to buses at signal-controlled road junctions can be divided into two kinds. In the first, signal timings are adjusted explicitely to favour traffic streams containing larger proportions of buses or to allow for the known behaviour of buses. In the second, special treatment is given to buses themselves at the junction. This paper discusses the latter and discusses briefly how to make allowances in the case of bus lanes.
