Part 1 gives a review of the major environmental problems in the Netherlands with respect to qualitative and quantitative management of ground and surface water, the protection against flooding and salinification, fresh water supplies, national and international problems of water pollution and quality control, major problems of space limitations, air pollution, noise pollution, and deterioration and reduction of natural areas. Part 2 deals with present and future measures for the control of the environment in the Netherlands and internationally with respect to the problems mentioned in part 1. Finally the organisation of research, advice and information, planning and quality control is inventorized as well as academic courses and specialist training in environmental management both in the Netherlands and internationally.
