Samenvatting

A method for determining vehicle braking efficiency whereby actual stopping distances achieved by the vehicle are compared to ideal stopping distances theoretically achievable if the vehicle brake system were able to modulate the brakes such that the tyres produced peak braking forces throughout the stop, is described. Results from tests and calculations are presented for two vehicles equipped with four wheel anti-lock systems, which demonstrate that the method is viable and realistic.
