Samenvatting

Hazard Perception was assessed using the NFER developed Hazard Perception test, which proved difficult to move or replicate on the new platform, and two well known psychometric tests, Raven's Progressive Matrices, which assesses intelligence, and Costs and McCrea's (1992) NEO personality test, were both used in their original paper and pencil format because of copyright restrictions. The platform which was developed, which the authors refer to as CADS (Computerised Assessment of Drivers' Skills), incorporated 30 tests and used more than 50 measures of performance. The data reported here relate to a sample of 404 drivers, tested between November 1996 and August 1997 at the University of Surrey and the Transport Research Laboratory. One very tangible result of this project is that they have developed a robust and reliable test platform, which to date has been used for over 2,000 hours of data collection. The analyses reported in this year refer to this original sample of 404 drivers, of whom 100 were further tested on-road, in order to assess their driving skills. (A)
